A Common Buckeye pupa (with cat undergoing transformation), attached to the Veronica:
A Common Buckeye butterfly that either (a) emerged from the pupa OR (b) layed the eggs from which the cats developed (a 'which came first: the butterfly or the eggs?!' conundrum):
...And for this week at Katarina's Blooming Friday, the theme of 'Used' just begged to be included with this threesome. Here is the empty Common Buckeye pupa, hollow and paper-thin, still attached by a thread to the Veronica:

Hi, Jan!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous blue on that caterpillar. I don't believe I've ever seen an empty pupa before so that was very cool. Happy Friday.
Oh, Jan this is a very beautiful post!! Lucky you. . . I have never even seen a Buckeye . . . cater or butterfly. Wonderful photos!! Have a lovely weekend! ;>)
ReplyDeleteI'm struggling. It's a lovely sequence but I killed my Veronica (by mistake)and that makes me grumpy. Hm.

I so enjoyed your photos showing the different stages in the life cycle of this lovely butterfly. The colours on the Buckeye are certainly what some would refer to as 'Fall colours' ... I just loved those great big 'eyes' on its' wings!
ReplyDeleteHere in new Zealand, in my school and homes, we plant swan plants for the Monarch Butterfly caterpillars.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting.
Hi Jan,
ReplyDeleteI love the way you've combined the two memes together. There couldn't have been a better way to show "used". Beautiful butterfly...those eyes remind me of our Peacock Pansy butterfly.
I'm so glad you stopped by yesterday. Will see you again:)
What great shots Jan. Love the butterfly and seeing it's stages.

I like your "used" idea. It is always fascinating to see caterpillars turn from eating machines into beautiful insects!
