My husband and her husband, Charlie, hit it off--both were retired Army--and we all recounted our days spent at Fort Monroe. Janet's dad was a Colonel on the post when Mike and I were just newly-weds and stationed there in 1977. My husband remembers him well, as a fine gentleman. Little did we know that 33 years later we would be recounting our days there with his daughter and son-in-law;-)

Janet took us for a walk around their yard, which sits along an inlet of the Chesapeake Bay. She went around digging up a few native plants for me to take home and plant in my yard. Two kinds of Spiderwort, including a yellow foliaged variety called 'Sweet Kate'; Johnny-Jumpups, some annual Poppies that reseed on their own, and some Japanese Asters--Kalimeris pinnatifida. They are all safely planted in my gardens and I am so happy to have had the chance to meet Janet and bring home a few things to always remember her by. Soon she'll be moving away from that area so I was glad we were able to arrange this brief get together.
Today I am thankful for technology, for without it, there would be fewer friends in my life!
