Robins Flocking to Native Holly Trees

For the past week or so I have seen flocks of 30 or more robins on our native holly trees. They are, of course, after the berries--especially tasty to them during this period where the snow cover is thick and solid and so very difficult to forage through.

I'm not a great photographer so I just kept snapping away while the robins feasted, in hopes of capturing a couple of them with berries between their beaks.

Because they are so quick, it was nearly impossible to just focus in on one at the moment they grabbed a berry. Basically, I guess I just got lucky a few times!

Robins can be seen here year round, so just because they all appear in flocks from time to time doesn't necessarily equate with a 'sign of spring', as the old saying goes.

I would like to think that spring is coming though, because the temperatures are expected to rise in the next week or so.

When spring is 'really' here the robins and other birds will not be feasting on berries, but rather insects and worms that they can find freely in the warm soil ;)
