Every month on the 15th, garden bloggers around the world visit Carol, at May Dream Gardens, to post mid-month photos from their gardens. This post marks the one year anniversary of my first time contributing to Carol's bloom day activity. I'm late for Bloom Day this month, as inspiration seemed to come slowly. I wondered what could be different this year than in my GBBD post from last November, 2008:
GBBD November, 2008
The answer is: nothing is different, other than new additions planted this spring and summer. Blooms are popping out on cosmos, carpet rose, dianthus, daisy, petunia, black-eyed susan, and phlox--even in mid-November! The weather has been unseasonably warm the past few weeks. These photos were all taken yesterday, 11/16/09.
In the next batch of photos, the crepe myrtle can be seen in it's newest fall foliage, along with their seed pods, remnants of the flowers that once hung on for so many months. The holly-days are just about here...just look at those red berries lighting up for the season! Lavendar, salvia and geranium still bloom in the gardens, not giving in to the threat of winter. There has even been new growth on the buddleia...it has been confused into thinking it's spring! I love the rose hips...so colorful, and a great snack for hungry birds when the weather gets cold.
Finally, I walked around the back yard this afternoon and found just a few more blooms: lantana is hanging on, as is salvia I planted from seed last winter. There is a pretty coleus still looking colorful, a white petunia, and near the birdbath, the fern and colorful coleus look quite attractive. The hellebore plant will be getting ready to bloom in a few months. The plant in this photo was divided in the spring, so it will be interesting to see how many blooms it gives off after having been separated.
Our dogs, James and Fred, are very attached to the yard and gardens. In warm weather, they can be found playing outside in the backyard. Don't they compliment the scenery just perfectly? :-)
Now go ahead over to May Dreams Garden and see what's blooming this time of year in other gardens all around the world!
--Today I am thankful for blooms the world over:-)
