*Thanks to Randy (from Randy & Meg's Garden Paradise) for ID'ing the blue dragonfly as a Slaty Skimmer, and the Black striped dragonfly as a Common Whitetail.
Today I am thankful for the pond in my neighborhood, for the native plants that have been added there, and for the critters that frequent it.

Super shots !!!
ReplyDeleteYou have dragonflies I've never seen before.
The grasshopper got my attention.
Jan,
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your dragonflies! The blue one is a Slaty Skimmer and the last one is a male Common Whitetail
Hi Jan. What wonderful pictures of the Dragonflies. They are just to fast for me and it is rare for me to get a good picture of one. Yours are terrific. There are so many kinds and they are so colorful. My what a scary grasshopper. LOL! We do not have many here anymore.I see one once in a while but nothing like when I was a kid, ages ago.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week.
Hi Patsi, thanks for stopping by;-)
ReplyDeleteRandy, thanks for the ID's--much appreciated:-)
Lona, I think it all depends on the time of year, and what the environment is like. Right now there are very few at the pond. These photos were taken a couple of weeks ago when they were plentiful.
Wonderful images!I liked the dragonfly with the banded wings.
ReplyDeleteJan,
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous Dragonfly photos! They never cease to amaze me with their aerial acrobatics, and I could sit by the pond and just watch them all day. Also, thanks for all your great comments over at Beautiful Wildlife Garden! We sure do appreciate your support.
Hi Lotusleaf, thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteCarole, I am so fascinated by the dragonflies, as well. I really do like the Beautiful Wildlife Garden blog...it's always enjoyable to visit;-)
Dear Jan, I am always captivated by Dragonflies. The iridescent colour of their bodies and wings is somehow totally magical. I love the name Slaty Skimmer and how perfectly that describes such a beautiful creature.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of your dragonflies - so different from the ones we have here!
ReplyDeleteJan, all your photos are very good, but the dragonfly shots are amazing. I can't catch the little guys being still enough for their photo op. I am thankful that you did!
ReplyDeleteDear Jan, I have been totally unsuccessful at taking pictures of dragonflies. Well done! Pam x
ReplyDeleteJan, I love your second photo especially . . . all captures are great! I can never catch those dragonflies. We are so lucky to have Randy!! Lovely to have a neighborhood pond. ;>)

ReplyDeleteWonderful photos Jan! I love those dragonflies. I haven't seen any around here recently, but we had lots earlier in the summer.
ReplyDeleteMarvellous stuff, Jan. Your photos are brilliant. I just loved the Common Whitetail Dragonfly ... rather handsome!
ReplyDeleteI'm also fascinated with dragonflies and we had so many of them around here during the summer. Your photos are amazing.
ReplyDeleteLucky you to have a pond in the neighborhood. There's always something interesting going on by water.
Thank you so much, Jan, for the kind comment you left on my blog a while back. Without ever having met you in person, I know you have a big heart.

The last one always reminds me of something that should work on an aircraft carrier or at the race track.
ReplyDeleteI love dragonflies! They come to my little pond and it thrills me so!
ReplyDeletewhat wonderful photos and so clear. take care, Judith (Precious Moments)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely BEAUTIFUL pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!!
Michelle
Hi Jan, how on earth did you manage to get those wonderful dragonfly photos. I never realized that dragonflies still about so late in the year, but we still have them in our garden, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Jan, Love your pond critters. Lots still going on in your neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteI especially love the architectural qualities of the first shot! The angular lines of the leaves really complement the dramatic lines of the grasshopper, and it even has a great pyramidal composition! I know grasshoppers eat the plants, but I usually leave them as part of my little ecosystem. There are plenty lizards, toads, treefrogs, birds and nonpoisonous snakes that appreciate the protein!
ReplyDeleteSuch charming critters you saw at the pond! I like seeing bugs in the garden, even the creepy ones, just because they are so interesting. EXCEPT FOR JAPANESE BEETLES! I'm writing a post about the pond too, but focusing on fall colors and sunset. You'll see!
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful photos!!
ReplyDeleteSuzy
Great pictures, I love the multi color dragonfly
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photography! I LOVE the dragonflies...they are very special to me :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely images. I love the grasshopper photo. I tried yesterday to photograph one without success. They are just to darn hoppy.
