What Are You Waiting For?!

If you want to have birds in your yard this winter, there are probably a couple of things you need to be doing. Sure, a few birds will stop by now and then in most of our yards. But in order to get the color, and the variety of avian feathered friends at your doorstep, it's important to provide them with a little (or a lot, depending on your preferences...and budget!) of bird food. Along the same lines, but maybe even more important, is the water. It's almost impossible to keep them coming back for more unless you also have a watering hole. In the freezing temps, a heated birdbath is a must. Read my blog post for a bit more on this at State-by-State Gardening's 'Virginia Gardener Magazine' online "Winter is for the Birds'.

    We have so enjoyed all the different birds at our new home in Redmond, OR! We have quite the interesting array of visitors even in winter- hope you are well the New Year!

    Hi Tessa, so glad you've been enjoying your birds!
    And you, too, Darla! I probably should have prefaced this brief post by saying I'm talking about areas where there is ice/snow and not much available food or water for the birds in nature;-)
    I wrote the post for the 'Virginia Gardener' so was mostly speaking to areas that have recently gotten socked!
