Visit GGW to view more photos submitted for February's contest, entitled 'Winter Light'.
There was another photo I really considered, but decided there was more of a 'focal point' in the first photo. Both of these photos were taken last winter, March 2009.
--Today I am thankful for winter light, wherever it happens to shine;-)
Words and photos by Jan Huston DobleThanks For 2 Day.
Beautiful. I would love to have a small foot bridge in my garden. :)
ReplyDeleteNice pic.
ReplyDeleteNever thought of entering a contest.
Good luck !!
Well thank you;-)
ReplyDeleteI was about 4 minutes late;-( Probably will be disqualified...oh well, I still wanted to get it in. I tend to run a bit late!
So pretty - good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou know what I like about this photo, Jan? The lines; the straight lines of fence and trees, the curved lines of the bridge, all covered in white velvet and shimmery light. It's very tranquil, and at this time of year I especially appreciate tranquil. Best of luck to you in the contest!
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely indeed Jan, and good luck! Looks like a pretty spot, but I know I'd enjoy it even more in the summer with flowers! I try, but I just can't get on board with winter. Give me summer anytime!
ReplyDeleteHi Jodi, you're very kind--thank you;-)
ReplyDeleteRobin, thank you, too. I definitely hear ya on the summer/flowers issue:)
Sweetbay, Debbie, Patsi, Rebecca...thanks for your comments:) Patsi, each month GGW has a contest. You should seriously consider it sometime...I always enjoy your photos!
ReplyDeleteHi Jan, love the photo. We had a blowing, wet snow last night and it's all stuck to the tree branches and trunks. Wish I'd had time to snap some photos.
ReplyDeleteMarnie
Thanks Marnie;-)
ReplyDeleteOh Jan what a beautiful picture that makes. I love the sun filtering and shadowing onto the snow surface. Beautiful! Good luck with the contest!
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks Lona;)
ReplyDeleteHi Jan I like your photo the trees look good grouped together with the light and how nice to have a small foot bridge in the garden.
ReplyDeleteI thought about entering then found the photos were ones I'd had the white balance setting wrong so had come out a little blue.
Ah well practice etc. I will have to just pop along and look at everyone elses entries and pick up some well needed hints.
Love the snow covered foot bridge.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Jan! I tried entering this year for the first time, but I think I flubbed it up
ReplyDelete:(
Oh well...I'll try again next year!!
Love the foot bridge!
Both photos are so beautiful. It is hard to believe that you received so much snow last year. It is beautiful :^)
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for posting your winter light photo for us to enjoy -- regardless of deadlines!
ReplyDeleteFreda
Hi Jan~~ I love your photo. I recognize this as the same setting, sans snow, for viewing the foxes or coyotes? Or am I just losing my mind? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, TWS.
ReplyDeleteJoanne & Judy, don't worry, most of us aren't 'pro's'--well,speaking for myself, I am NOT. It's ALL practice for me:-)
Noelle, our snow last year was really pretty. But it was nothing in comparison to what we've had this year;-)
Cameron, I'd probably be fired if I had to meet deadlines. Actually, I can be good with them IF I really decide to, but I guess I wasn't sure I was really going to send in a photo. Waiting until the very last minute wasn't smart because although I posted the blog post before midnight, it didn't show up on GGW until 12:04.
And Grace, all I can say is, YES, I think you are losing your mind! I have NO foxes or coyotes here, to my knowledge!! Haha...I get SO confused with SO many blogs and people that it's totally normal for me, so hey, join the club!! I've already LOST mine, at least you're only 'losing' it...you still have time to get it back;-)
I like them both! I fixed you supper and it's in the warmer when you get ready for it :).
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you, and may I add, I am still amazed by all that snow. Do you think it will be melted by May?
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, best of luck. I think that you might have a winner.
ReplyDeleteJen
Love the snow-bedecked footbridge, and all the shadows and light are so lovely. Good luck in the contest, Jan!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness both photos are superb. Best of luck with the competition.
ReplyDeleteLooking at this photo makes me feel peaceful. If I was the judge, you'd win!
ReplyDeletedonna
Anna, thank you! I'll be right down!
ReplyDeleteLes, it was quite a winter! I can now see areas of grass and we've had some light rain the last 2 days so it's gradually disappearing. It better be gone by March. If it's still here in May I'm moving to Canada or Maine...where it's warmer(!)
Jen, Meredith, Muhammad & Donna, thanks so much;-)
I have no expectations to win. Have entered 2 before this. It's just fun to participate. I almost didn't join in on this one...didn't think I had any worth bothering with...
Both the photographs are stunning. The pictures of snow always enamor me as, coming from a sub-tropical region, I have never seen snow falling.
ReplyDeleteThe decision to select the first photograph is a pretty intelligent one, the foot over bridge has greatly enhanced the beauty of the photograph.
Best of luck!
These are both very good!! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThey are both wonderful pictures so I would have had to flip a coin to decide which one to enter, lol... Okay the bridge is too cute. Did you purchase it as is or did someone build it??? I have been after my hubby to build me one for years with little luck. I think it is about time for me to take the jump....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful light. I love that color the world becomes just after a good snow. These are great. good luck in the contest.
ReplyDeleteJan, good luck in the contest, both of the pictures are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Jan! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me a note. It's fantastic to find fellow bloggers so supportive, and still around. Thanks for your kind words, it feels nice :)
ReplyDeleteOn this post, I'll second Green thumb. We belong to the sub-tropics, so snow is a treat to watch. Well captured.
They're beautiful pictures, very expressive of winter light, but I'm having a hard time working up enthusiasm for the subject (grin) (no, really!).
ReplyDeleteI sure hope the weather forecast is wrong. Have you noticed where the snow has melted that the grass is green and growing? I'd hate to see that covered up again.
Hi Jan, lovely snow picture. Maybe it should be a screen saver in the heat of summer. I too look out at snow and am so ready to see anything green. But, you are so right and thank you for the reminder. Each day is a gift-Gloria
