Fiskars Rain Barrel Give Away! Yes, it's true!!

How would you like to win a FREE Fiskars Rain Barrel to celebrate Earth Day, which is April 22, 2010?

*(Actual model being given away is not known. Above photos shows one of the models Fiskars carries)

It's easy: Write a post on what you are doing in your yard to contribute to a greener environment. NOTE: You don't need to be a tree hugger or an environmentalist for this! Just a garden blogger! *You do need to have an active garden blog. Your post need not be a Pulitzer-prize-eligible piece of work. NO, just a paragraph or two (or, more if you wish!) about things you are already doing, or even are planning to do, to help our earth stay clean.

Author, national television show host, and syndicated columnist Joe Lampl, of Growing A Greener World (a.k.a joe gardener®) has arranged for a Fiskars Rain Barrel donation, which will serve as the Grand Prize for the Garden Bloggers Sustainability project that I am hosting. Click Here to watch Joe demonstrate how to install a Fiskars Rain Barrel.

What are the other prizes?
*Three pairs of garden gloves by West County Gardener
*Two hand tools (weeders) by CobraHead
*A jar of GreenCure Fungicide with spray bottle by GardenShoesOnline
*Earth-friendly (stainless steel) water bottle by Hip Mountain Momma
*A donation by WomensWork, (which I'll add as soon as I know)

What do you need to do?
1. Create a *new post, on your active garden blog, sharing what you are doing in your yard/garden and/or plan to start doing, to help our world stay 'green'. *If you have written a previous post about Earth Day or 'being green', and you think it's relevant, you can use it, but please re-post it with the current date and name of this project.
2. Include, in your post, a reciprocal link back to This Page and include the badge in your post or your sidebar.

3. Mention in your post that Earth Day is on April 22, 2010. The EPA website has a section to give you some information.
4. Come back and attach the link to YOUR post in a comment, either on this post, or the original post announcing the project, NLT April 15, 2010, by 11:59 pm.  I will then add it to the list of participants posts.*(When you come back to leave your link please also tell me your glove size in case you get chosen to receive a pair. I was given two women's medium and one men's large).

How will the Grand Prize winner be determined?
I will read all posts to be sure directions were followed, and that something of some substance has been written. It need not be a Pulitzer-winning-essay but should show a little effort and not be just a few sentences about why you want the rain barrel.  All qualifying entries will be placed in a drawing. The names will be drawn at random and winners will be announced in a separate post on or before April 20, 2010.

*NOTE: Prize eligibility is to US and Canada residents only. However, I would love bloggers from other countries to join in just because you want to spread the word! Many of the current posts that I've received are from outside the US and Canada.

Have fun with this! Read through some of the others already posted, but don't feel you have to compete. This isn't a contest, so I'm not choosing 'the best essay'. No, it's to get you (and others) thinking about what you (or they) already do or want to add to your lifestyle to make it more sustainable. And, it's to announce the approach of Earth Day so our readers will be aware.

Wondering what's in this for me? Nothing tangible...no gifts or prizes. But I feel excited to be able to honor our earth by helping to bring attention to sustainability issues, and of course, meeting more garden bloggers is a huge benefit;-)

Any questions? Email me: starlight1957ATgmailDOTcom

--Today I am thankful for being able to offer this give away for garden bloggers everywhere, spreading the word and learning about Earth Day and treating mother earth kindly.

  1. Dear Jan, How very thoughtful and kind of you to take the time to instigate this competition to promote a greener way of life.

Caring for the environment is something about which we should all take note, and this kind of thing very much serves to raise awareness.

I do hope that you have a big response and many entries.

  2. Wow, these are fantastic prizes, Jan! A big thank you to you for hosting this and to all the sponsors for their contributions to encourage people to join in. I've been thinking about this and will definitely join in in a few weeks. I really believe that everyone working together to make a few conscious changes to help the environment can make a huge difference.

I enjoyed seeing all your beautiful photos of the birds you counted for the GBBC. No wonder they wanted you to confirm the number of bluebirds--your home must be a magnet for them!

  4. Good luck to those that enter.
Too bad some companies don't recognize that a lot of their customers come from Canada and purchase their products in stores up here, yet they refuse to ship to Canada.

  7. Hi Jan, this is a wonderful idea. I have to think about my post. Container gardening on the deck makes it more difficult, but I am thinking about my angle.

You mentioned the stopwatch website in your comment. I do think that it is pretty accurate, and I was reading on the site that you need to clear your cache for a totally new reading. I think the blogs leave cookies and that makes for a faster reading after the first time.

I do get various readings throughout the day also. I have a feeling that my server isn't the quickest. I have used another site, and the speed varies throughout the day.

So very kind of you to be the hostess.
I am looking forward to the 2010 growing season. Planning more native plants for the butterflies and bees.
Happy Spring, only 20 days away!

I want to win this for my school. We have made efforts to be greener this year. On this Earth Day we will be beautifying our campus and learning about alternative energy sources.
