Winter is here and it's time for a little musing with the Garden Bloggers over at Sweet Home and Garden Chicago.

(Bluebird in Snow) photo by Jan Doble, 2008
"I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.
'We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,
'I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December."
- Oliver Herford, I Heard a Bird Sing
Thanks for hopping in my blog. Your pictures are awesome and I hope I can see your fungus pictures soon :)
ReplyDeleteSaw this on another blog today and thought it a wonderful thought. "nearer to spring' is a good way to be thinking, but it's hard with the cold and the snow blowing outside. :}
ReplyDeleteThis must be everyone's favorite poem at this time of year. Lovely photo of a bluebird in the snow. Poor little thing looks so cold.

Hi Jan and thanks for participating in Garden Bloggers' Muse Day. Your selection was posted by three others so the old saw that " great minds think along the same lines " is appropriate .
ReplyDeleteThis is an impossible photo to achieve in Iowa! The bluebirds are long gone before it snows here. I'm so glad you chose this photo to post. It's beautiful (I think he's in shock?) ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe don't get bluebirds here in my area, just those mean old jays! Lovely poem & photo for muse day. This was a popular one today. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Jan--Gorgeous photo! We have bluebirds, but even as mild as we are, not this time of year--what a treat. And a perfect illustration of the poem.
ReplyDeleteI love this poem, and your little bluebird is adorable. Wish we could attract some here.
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly picture below is gorgeous too. You have a gift with the camera!
