The Toad Lily is also known by its Botanical name, Tricyrtis. This particular hybrid is 'Sinonome'...a cross between T. hirta and T. formosana. This is the first year with it in my garden, and I love it. Ok, so I couldn't be completely wordless. Happy Wednesday;-)

Why I wonder TOAD lily? Such an unexpected name for a lovely flower.
ReplyDeleteStunningly beautiful! I do not have this lily in my garden, so to see it in such lovely detail is a treat.
ReplyDeleteWhat exquisite photography. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteInspiring pics, Jan :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new garden resident! Coincidentally, just last week I picked up some bulbs of this plant. I too look forward to it moving into my garden after many years of admiring it :-)
I have toad lilies, too, and they are wonderful! Unfortuantely, the wild bunnies also love them, so I was surprised I had any blooms at all!
ReplyDeleteI just put this in my garden this year as well. It is terrific isn't it! I want more! They are such photogenic little blooms!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty one! My daughter chose one at a plant sale recently, it looks like the same color as yours. They are such exotic looking flowers.
ReplyDeleteI love toad-lilies. There are a lot of cultivars out there. The best is 'Sinonome', also 'Empress' (same flowers upright habit), 'Miyazaki' (many pale purple flowers), 'White Towers' (pure white), and T. latifolia (June blooming yellow). I have tried a lot of other cultivars unsuccessfully.
ReplyDeleteLove , love , love this flower Jan. And your pictures are so incredible. I always thought it was called Toad Lily because of the spots.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty & delicate! :)
ReplyDeletevery nice Jan~
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in your Jan. This is the first year that I have grown them too and I have become a fan of those tiny loaded blooms. You have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are just stunning, Jan. But I'm reminded that I planted some toad lily roots earlier this summer and never saw a bloom. You've inspired me to look for another variety.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to keep quiet with something so beautiful. Luckily you're in good company. We can all relate! I love your Toad Lily!
ReplyDeleteSuper great photos !!
ReplyDeleteThe colors in the lilies sure are stunning.
So pretty! I planted one a couple of years ago, but it died before it flowered, so I'm not sure what I had. Well, at least Casa Mariposa has me wondering if it might have died from the bunnies instead of lack of attention :o)
ReplyDeleteDear Jan, I've had no luck with toad-lilies -- eaten by rabbits! Your picture inspires me to try again in a different location. Thanks so much for your lovely comment! P. x
ReplyDeleteSpectacular shots of that glorious bloom. Print them!!
ReplyDeleteYour toad lilies look like they're going to jump out and grab me. Amazing photos. At first I read them to be trout lilies and wondered why they blooming in the fall. Put on your reading glasses, Donna:)
ReplyDeleteSuch detail!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Jan!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing bloom! I loved your story about the driving test in Portland. My son took 2 attempts to parallel park but he still passed.
