Here is what garden-guru Joe Lamp'l has to say about the Rain Barrel that Fiskars is giving away in my Gardeners' Sustainable Living Project/GiveAway: It's "Not your grandmother's rain barrel"! (Follow the previous link to see Joe in a video describing the Fiskar's Rain Barrel).
The Fiskars rain barrel retails for $98 at Home Depot |
Fiskar's sent me a 58 gallon rain barrel to try for myself. I just love it!
There is very little work involved in getting it attached to your gutter. My helpful hubby simply cut the gutter and installed the attachments. There is a diverter to prevent the water from over flowing once the barrel is full. Easy as pie to hook up.
Features include (from the Fiskars website):
Features
- Ideal for capturing rainwater for garden and lawn watering needs, lowering your watering bills
- Barrel and cover made of recyclable, UV-treated, impact-resistant polyethylene to withstand the elements
- Spigot position provides clearance for filling watering cans
- Threaded spigot design offers easy garden hose connection
- Flat-back design fits snug to house
- Rainwater diverter fits standard 2" x 3" and 3" x 4" downspouts and channels overflow away from your home to protect your foundation
- System includes rain barrel, snap-on cover, threaded spigot, rainwater diverter and detailed installation guide
- Rain barrel made in USA
- 58-gallon capacity
- Dimensions: 40"H x 23.25"W x 25.6"D
- Weight: 18.95 lbs.
- Limited three-year warranty
It's easy on the eyes and would fit right in with any garden decor. We've located it close to the veggie containers (my potager) so I can just fill a watering can right there. The veggies are going to love the natural rain water.
I'm thrilled to be a new owner AND to be giving one away to a lucky blogger. All you need to do is link a blog post that discusses your earth-friendly practices. Please visit my Gardeners' Sustainable Living Project/Giveaway by April 15th for the complete directions. It's definitely worth your time and effort. Thanks to Fiskar's for being so generous by sending one to me and sharing one with one of my readers:-)
Good luck!

Very cool! I'm glad they gave you one too. I've always liked Fiskars, but now I like them even better!
ReplyDeleteI have rain barrels, but not a Fiskars one. This one is beautiful, a nice addition to the yard.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to love your rain barrel Jan. They are so handy and the plants love the warmer rain water.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find.
ReplyDeleteAnd it was free...can't beat that.
Looks very attractive in your yard.
Looks neat and tidy all set up there by the stairs. Kudos to hubby too.
ReplyDeleteThant looks like a wonderful product would love one for my garden . I do a cooking blog and I believe growing produce/herbs is a greener way to eat. We think fewer chemicals in ou food is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteI bought a more traditional looking rain barrel last year and love it. I like the look of the Fiskars - quite unusual :-)
ReplyDeleteI just bought a rain barrel--our nearby town sponsored a truck load sale for such a reasonable price I couldn't pass it up. Mine is not nearly as attractive as this Fiskars one, though!
ReplyDeleteJust posted my sustainability project!
I recently bought a Fiskars rain barrel, but not this particular one. it's my third rain barrel (one is a 6' tall, 3' diameter culvert pipe, upended in concrete and the other is a remade pickle barrel).
ReplyDeleteI love how easy it was to set up up and the way it connects to the down spout. I didn't need to set up a overspill pipe separately.
The fact that it's a Fiskars did make a difference in my purchase decision. I have one pair of their loppers and at least 4 hand clippers. Love 'em!
