  22. Lucky You! I would have dropped everything I was doing and just sat and watched those beauties until the last one departed! I would not have gotten anything else done that day. Those are awesome pictures girl. Butterflies are not the best ones to pose for a pic but you got them in their glory here :-)

  32. Hello Jan,
What an incredible sight! I wouldn't be able to walk away...I would just stand there completely entranced!

  33. Hi gardening friends~thank you ALL for stopping by and leaving comments! Yes, these are Agastache (Anise Hyssop) plants...and I'm not sure whether they are Agastache foeniculum (the native plant) or the 'hybrid' variety Blue Fortune. When I planted them years ago I honestly didn't take note.
These photos were in August, when the plants were looking a bit leggy. I didn't cut them down the entire summer because to be honest, from mid-July until late August, even into September, sights like this were an Every-Day-ALL-Day occurrance! I should have posted about it more often but instead, would stand outside and take hundreds of photos on a regular basis! I wish I could have captured the 'true' amount of swallowtails, skippers and even a monarch that were all there at the same time! There were all different sizes and colors and the blooms were covered in a variety of bees, as well...tons of them!
These are the plants in my gardens where 'most' of the butterfly action took place. They seem to really be drawn to that Anise flavor/scent. My actual Buddleia (Butterfly bushes) rarely got visitors...and I have 2 other varieties of Agastache, but the Anise Hyssop was 'THE BIG HIT' this summer!
I really have enjoyed all of your comments and I WILL be around to visit your blogs. It's been hard for me to make time to do that but it will happen;-)

  34. PS: I forgot to mention, there were usually upwards of 20-25 swallowtails sitting there, fluttering from bloom to bloom, all day long, every day! No kidding either;-)

  35. These photos are incredible - were they taken in your garden? I've never seen so many Swallow Tails in my life... I'd just posted today funnily enough and mentioned that we've certainly had more of these in France this year and I've posted a picture of the beatiful caterpillar on my blog incase you're interested. Sorry I've not visited in ages - it's been a long busy summer and at least one of the few benefits of a bad back has meant I've been able to catch up on some like your own that I've missed.. take care Miranda

  36. Hi Jan, Sorry it's been so long since I've visited. Your photos are amazing. I can't believe all those butterflies. I'm lucky to see one every few days or so. I love them!

Thanks so much for visiting and taking the time to comment! Please enjoy your TODAY and all of the gifts in YOUR garden of life!

Jan
