Can You Guess What This Is?

Is it a handcrafted needle-point tapestry?

Just look at these textures! What (or who) do you think this is?

Did you guess the eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly?

I was so thrilled to see this fluttering beauty today. It's only the 2nd butterfly I've seen so far this year. Perhaps more are on their way now. Have you seen many butterflies so far this year?

--Today I am thankful for nature's tapestries.

  3. Hi Jan~~ I never would have guessed a butterfly from that first photo. What an amazing camera you must have. It looks like it's having a sip of nectar from an agastache blossom.

  4. I've seen them more and more thank goodness. Many of us were beginning to worry. They are such a gift and you have captured them grandly. Love those close-ups.

  5. My guess looking at the first photo was orange-winged blackbird. At least I was right that it had wings. Only 1 butterfly spotted so far in our yard. How lucky of you to get a photo of the Tiger Swallowtail.

  7. Hi, Jan,
I've seen several butterflies this year, but I'm not as clever at photographing them. Beautiful!

  11. Love the close-up photos. Wish we could see the lovely details with our naked eye. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Very detailed! Great photos. So few butterflies this year... could it be the cool weather and rain?

  14. Great pictures Jan! I guessed butterfly from the first picture.

We have a lot of Swallowtails around this year. They are such a delight to watch.

  15. Hi Jan, I don't know if we've ever seen a butterfly in our young yard. I think I have a few plants that they like, though eventually I'll have to try harder to attract them.

  16. Dear Jan,
I love your blog & look forward to learning more about it and your photography. Really superb. My husband's family was in Virginia for a few years when he was little. It sounds so beautiful. Linda

  17. What fun. Great photos. I have not seen very many butterflies at all this summer so far, and what worries me more is that I have only saw a few honey bees.

  18. Great photos!

We have seen about a half dozen this year. Not enough hot days for them here this summer, I suspect.

  22. I didn't see too many butterlflies in my garden yet. However, we could admire lots of interesting ones at a butterfly exhibition at Lewis Ginter a couple days ago. I always find them fascinating.

  23. The first picture had me completely fooled. Although there are plenty of bees around here we seem to have very few butterflies. Hopefully things will improve as they are lovely creatures.

  27. FANTASTIC photos Jan! I've hardly seen any butterflies this summer. I'm so glad you're staying on with Blotanical too. I haven't been by in a while so I just caught up on your posts. It's so easy to get caught up in the Internet and let it consume hours of your day. I think it's a fine line to know how much time to devote to blogging, commenting, etc. I struggle with it too so don't feel alone. Do what works for you and visit when you can. I hope you & your son both fully recover from Lyme disease too. What a time you've had.
