Pretty Purple Peony Has Popped!

I'm so excited because last year this purple peony bush had NO blossoms on it. This year, just one (this one!) showed up:

I know next year it'll be even better, because my white bush had just 3 blossoms last year and this year there are almost 50! I'll show that one when the white blossoms pop! Meanwhile, Pretty Pink Peony is going to be even more beautiful as the days go by and she opens up even more!
While I'm showing off Pretty Peony, I thought I'd also feature Awesome Azaleas:

Awesome Azaleas are about finished blooming, but I took so many photos of them I thought I should post a few!
Lastly, while I'm on the subject of collages...what do you think of Charming Clematis?

*Click on collage to enlarge

I believe I have a few other clematis varieties that haven't bloomed yet, but these are what are here so far. Please don't ask me to give you blotanical names, as I have no idea.
I keep promising to show my new backyard, and I will...check back soon. I'm not keeping you waiting on purpose! It's just hard for me to decide which photos to upload!!!

Please keep checking back...you are always welcome here and I am thankful for your visits, my blogging friends!

--Today I am thankful for shades of indigo and violet and the color purple!

  2. Tempermental those peonies.

I look forward to the white one.

  3. What a sweet peony! And gorgeous clematis, but doesn't 'clematis'='gorgeous'? :)

I like your header photo too. Sorry I haven't been visiting blogs much lately. Guess there's too much to do outside now that the weather is finally getting nice!

Hope you have a lovely Memorial Day weekend!

  4. Oh my goodness, how gorgeous! I thought the peony was pretty good just on its own, and then there was more... By the way, have you seen Frances's peony at Faire Garden? It must have bloomed just about the same time.

  5. Beautiful blooms! I was just about to ask you about the backyard project. I'm as excited to see it as if it were my own!--Randy

  8. Jan,

Your collages are stunning, the azaleas to me were the best. The purple peony is one I might have to get. Our azaleas are do except for the late one.

  10. Gorgeous!! Peonies do make us wait, but they sure make the wait worth it!
Clematis' are one of my favorites, I don't think I've seen all of the ones you have before.
    The azaleas are awesome :)

I love your Ms and Mr Charmings. They have such beautiful smiles!

  16. The purple peony is beautiful! I would be surprised and excited about it too :-) Your flowers are so appealing. Now I am really inspired to plant more flowers in my garden. Also, it is very nice to see your photos. They are very well taken. Have another wonderful day!

  17. Hi Jan~~ Did you say CLEMATIS?? My blood pressure just went up a notch! I love Clematis and love your new banner photo. I couldn't choose a favorite if I tried but I'm very fond of the small flowered varieties. C. 'Purpurea Plena Elegans' has a small, completely double purple flower and C. 'Etoile Rose' has tulip shaped blossoms in a deep rosy red. Love 'um. But that's just two out of twenty-something currently in my garden. (I'm a plant glutton.)

Anyway, beautiful photos. I love all that color.

  18. First of all, the clematis are simply beautiful! I saw a dark purple clematis to some friends yard and I didn't had the camera with me.

And in Rome I saw some beautiful azaleas! Yours are the same!

  22. So there is hope for my Sarah Bernhard than? Two years without flowers, one year with one, and this year three. So i hereby expect 10 next year!

  23. Jan -- Your peonies (and azaleas and clematis) are stunning. I wish we could grow the peonies -- they are so impressive. She's like the queen of the garden. And your collages are great. I'm trying my first clematis and I can see from your collection that I need to buy MORE!

  24. And what an amazing bloom it is! Very pretty and it appears to be well worth the wait!

  26. Wonderful photos. I can't grow azaleas here but the clematis and peonies are favorites. Don't think I've ever seen a purple peony but I did see a green one in a catalog this morning;)

  29. I LOVE the collages. What a beautiful peony. I'm still waiting for a few that I planted last year to bloom for the first time. Looks like I'll have to wait until next year for them, but I can wait!

What a lovely pink Peony. I particularly like your Clematis but all your flowers look lovely.

  31. Wow, what RIOTOUS color you have. The azaleas/rhodies here are NOT as bam-vibrant as in DC. I was so struck by the deep color when I visited your area some 10 years ago. Peonies do take a while to bloom, and your purple one is great. I'm sure it will have more blooms next year. It's a good thing we're patient gardeners! :)

  32. Such a rainbow of colours, Jan! Things have exploded into bloom here, but we're behind you; my PJM rhododendron is blooming, but the azaleas and other rhodos won't be for a while yet. Tulips just coming on but things have leapt ahead in the past couple of days. It's been amazingly hot. No clematis for a while, though!

  35. Jan, your collages are always breathtaking! Was the purple peony new or transplanted? I find that the blooms are very sparse when I move my peonies around and it takes a few years to be full of buds. I love the red and white azaleas together..so festive. Please post your new garden soon!

  36. The collages are an excellent way to showcase your blooms.

  37. Ahhh that peony is beautiful and just happens to be in my color! I have a new peony this year too but don't know if it is going to bloom. I hope it at least gives me one. I also love Clematis and need lots more of them.
I'm like you not getting around as much anymore. I'm slow to start with but now with all of the gardening I just haven't learned the trick of doing it all like these other talented people. But I'm working on it.

  38. Pretty Purple Peony is beautiful! My peonies are long since spent so I enjoyed seeing your bloom! :) Oh & the Azaleas & Clemmies were beautiful too. ;)

  39. Jan, such wonderful displays of color. Your peony is a beauty and a new color for me.But I love the azaleas and you have a few of them along with the clematis :-) Wow! Trying to catch up on the blogs today after spending all week playing in the dirt :-) Have a wonderful and safe weekend.

  40. Hi Jan~
Gorgeous collages! I just love the color combination of all three of the flowers you shared today. Your garden must look really beautiful right now.

  41. Hi Jan! I love your collages! I know what you mean about figuring out what to post. I haven't been making collages because I accidently set it so Picassa takes all of the photos from my iphoto library when I open it up, and I don't like that. Is that how yours is set up?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love your pretty purple peony, and I know how you feel. I got my first blooms this year on our peonies. In your clematis collage, is that Dr. Ruppel on the bottom left? We have him, and he blooms his head off - huge impact on that one.

  43. Beautiful collages and blooms! My peony also had one bloom this year. So I am looking forward to next year to see more of them:) Love azeleas. I don't have any clematis though. I tried a few, but they never started growing. I'm not sure what I do wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh My, Love the Peony. Ordered our first one a few days ago and hope that it will one day be as spectacular as yours.

  45. Those azaleas are definitely awesome! And so is your clematis. Stay patient, your peonies will be fantastic next year. Cheers!

  50. I am so jealous of your azaleas! We can grow them, but it takes years for our soil to be right for them to take off. The only two colors I have seen are a light pink and light yellow. Thank you SO much for putting that collage together. *dreaming*
