Tulips on Thursday

These tulips popped up in my garden this year:

There were only a few of them--

...even though I had hoped for more.

Yet, taking in their beauty,

...whether individually

...as a pair

...or as part of a group

I decided it didn't matter that only a few arrived this year. I realized that I just feel privileged

to have seen any at all.

How about you? What do you feel privileged to have seen today?

--Today I am thankful for tulips.

  1. Hi Jan, so far I have one lone tulip blooming;) There are several more just about to bloom that were planted last fall.

I used to have the red with yellow tulips similar to yours. They looked so nice against our white house.

  2. No tulips in my garden for the simple fact that by fall when the bulbs should be planted, I am so over planting anything:) But by spring, I'm always sooo sorry that I didn't. I feel pretty privileged to see yours though:))

  3. Jan, your great attitude is an inspiration. Lovely pictures of your tulips. I have a few white ones blooming in my front yard. I realize that in spring I'm craving color, though. Will have to plant some in shades of pink and lavender next time.

  4. Hi Jan

I think I'm going to plant some tulips in pots this Autumn. When the tulips fade I can just take the pots away and replace with something else for Summer. I have to think this way as my guests arrive in the late spring/summer so the place has to look its best.

I'm really appreciating Scaevola (fan flower) as an annual at the moment.

  6. beautiful tulips jan...just beautiful. i find it interesting how tulips, daffodils and other bulb flowers choose when they will make their debut...and some years they decide NOT to...
thanks for stopping by and visiting today...have a good evening...still waiting for the rain to show up here.

  7. They are lovely! I haven't planted bulbs yet but am so looking forward to it.

We had tulips pop up at our last garden in the strangest places. We finally guessed that the squirrels were taking bulbs from neighbours and hiding them in our yard.:)

  8. Nice tulips and what a nice way to look at them. I feel privileged to see rain today-yet I must get all planted so gotta run:)

  9. Very pretty tulips. I only have a couple in a pot... new this year. It is really a treat when something comes back that you weren't sure of.

  10. I felt privileged today when I found one, lonely sunflower seed that had sprouted in a pot intended for daffodils! The daffs didn't survive our winter, I don't believe, as there is no sign of them, but I was as pleased as if it had been roses when I saw that set of little green leaves. :-)

  11. Jan, lovely tulips! I do love that hot pink one, and I love your wonderful thoughts about life. Thanks!

To answer your question, I have felt privileged today to have a garden at all, and to have had so many years to work in it and make it beautiful --or, try to do so!

  12. Aren't they beautiful?! And perfect for your new header, too. I planted a lot of tulip bulbs last fall, so I am enjoying tulip "heaven" this spring. I feel privileged to see them go from bud to open blossom, changing a little more each day.

  13. Jan,

Glad to see such a cheerful happy planting :)Just love seeing tulips, but never plant them because they never make it more than one year for me.

  14. I felt the same way today! I looked around at all the beauty and just felt so blessed and thankful. Every bud, bloom, and sprout was just amazing to me!

  15. I'm also excited to see four tulips--I thought the groundhog had eaten them all, but a few prevail!

  16. Tulips are so lovely and colorful aren't they? Some day I will plant them, as they bring so much cheer to the garden.

  17. I love tulips but they really are just an annual here. This fall I'm planning on planting some of the specie types which are a true perennial. Are those the blooms in your header? :)

  18. My tulips didn't really come up this year either, considering I had so many more the year before. I think I will switch over to more "reliable" bulbs in the future.

Everything is going fine with the pregnancy:) I will be 32 weeks in a few days and will have the next check-up next week. It's getting more real every week now, knowing it's just a couple more months until our little boy will be here:)

Thank you for your award!:) Don't feel pressured to pass on the award I gave you. It does get more difficult each time, since there are so many great garden blogs out there and everyone deserves one.

  19. P.S. The tulips in my header are from last spring, and in an entirely different area! Nothing even came up in that area this year. And, these tulips just didn't have 'normal' spring weather to deal with this year. It alternated between TOO COLD and TOO HOT. The heat did them in (95+ degrees for 3 days!).

  20. Jan - your tulips are very lovely! I like the different colors. I have none (deer and rabbits run my life).

What did I see today? Buds on my poppies! :-) This is the first time that I've grown them from seed (planted last October). I hope they bloom before we leave for Paris on Monday. I'm afraid I'll miss the poppies and larkspur.

  21. I never plant tulips because the squirrels won't leave them alone, but maybe I should plant a few just to please them. As usual, enjoyed your lovely photos.

  22. Hi Jan- I love your tulips! I think tulips are one of the pretties flowers and I am going to figure out a way to grow them in my yard without the voles getting to them.
Today I saw lots of folks out in the rain working in their yards and that always make me happy. I am not the only one who takes it seriously and enjoys it at the same time.

  23. I love those vibrant tulip colors, and the lovely shape. Mine are popping now, and we've had some rain this evening, which will make them very happy.
I was privileged to see a huge assortment of birds at the feeders today, including 4 male purple finches and 5 females, and a rose-breasted grosbeak. He arrived yesterday.
I hope you have a lovely time in your garden this weekend, Jan :)

  24. Hi Jan! I'm new to your blog and I've loved reading it so far! My mother's favorite flower is the tulip, and with her working as a florist when I was a child, our house was always full of them! These pictures really bring back some wonderful memories for me : )

  25. I feel refreshed. After a tiring day at shopping yesterday, waking up today morning with every inch of muscle complaining, seeing those vibrant colors refresh me. You are lucky that they showed up.

  26. I feel priviliged to have seen a few tulips as well. Of course it would be great if there would have been loads of them, but even a few is rewarding.

  28. Jan, it rained all day and I spent every moment outside. I was privileged to see so many wondrous sights but I think the best by far was not a sight but a scent. The scent of the Vibernum blooms as they filled the air with the most delicious smell!

    Your tulips are lovely.

  29. Very pretty Jan! The bunnies around here eat tulips just as they're getting ready to pop!

I feel privileged that the two trilliums I planted last spring finally sprouted this spring!

  30. Hmm... ??? I haven't see this posting yet. Now I realised that all your new postings did not show in my dashboard. Wonder why. Got to add your site again.

These tulips look amazing! I love the red ones ;-)
