Valentines and Butterflies

The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia, is a lovely place to visit-

particularly in the spring, when new flora and fauna emerge with warmer temperatures.

But you might be interested to learn that even in February, this Botanical Garden is booming with activity.

The Valentine's Display in the Conservatory

and the Valentine's Dinner in the Tea House

are just two of the upcoming events at Lewis Ginter.

A huge attraction will be featured in May, as part of the Garden's 25th Anniversary Celebrations. The Butterflies LIVE! exhibit will be featured from May 22-Oct. 11, 2009:

(Click on the butterfly link in my sidebar)

..."The North Wing of the Conservatory will be filled
with hundreds of the jewel-winged beauties. Walk in
the midst of the delicate creatures, and learn their life
cycle by watching as butterflies emerge from
chrysalides and “dry and exercise” their wings – process
taking up to two hours before the butterfly is ready to fly.
The butterflies tend to be most active on clear, sunny days,
so you may want to plan your visit accordingly."

If you live in Virginia, or plan on visiting, think about spending some time at this marvelous Botanical Garden!

  1. Beautiful post....did you just go to Lewis Ginter? Or are you planning on going once the weather is a little warmer? Want to meet there? Make a day of it?

  3. Seeing this, I wish I lived in Virginia instead of Sweden! =)
At least, I hope I sometime will get the chance to visit America, and some of all these wonderful gardens. I certainly would like to spend a lot of time at Lewis Ginter's Botanical Garden! =)

    Have a nice weekend.

  6. I'd read about Lewis Ginter and wondered how it was--it seems great! That tea house is darling, complete with "thatched" roof. Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids also has a great butterfly exhibit in May. And so does the Detroit Zoo. :)

  9. Oh! Wouldn't I love to visit this site!! It's absolutely beautiful... but we're now in the midst of getting a huge (supposedly) snowfall! It began about 1/2 hour ago and already things are completely white!

  19. What a wonderful place to visit Jan. I hope you get to go when they have the Butterflies LIVE exhibit. I am lucky enough to live fairly close to a "butterfly pavillion" and it's always so uplifting to visit that tropical paradise (especially in winter) and see all the butterflies flitting about. Fabulous photo ops too. I agree with everyone about how adorable that tea house is too! Happy Valentines Day too!

  43. Jan,

Excellent job on this posting, makes me want to visit. To be honest it looks too beautiful for me, I like the out of the way places. Went to Calloway Gardens once didn't even have any fun though much was being redo and under construction.
