Pay-It-Forward

Today I am deviating from my usual posting to explain a special opportunity that came to me by way of Karitta at My Mothers Garden. It is based on the concept portrayed in the movie “Pay It Forward", where acts or deeds of kindness are done without expecting something in return--just passing it on, with hope that the recipients of the acts of kindness will pass it on.

As a former participant at Darla's (Family and Flowers) Pay-It-Forward gift-giving exchange, Karitta is sending one of her hand-made gifts to me (and 2 others). I will, in turn, be sending something handmade, by me, to the first 3 garden bloggers who comment on this post and request to participate. *You may of course, visit and leave a comment without any obligation to the PIF activity.

PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT: you will need to be one of the first 3 individuals to sign up here, and to agree to pass (a handmade gift) on to 3 more people via your blog. You will also agree to copy the essence of this post, substituting the names of the 2 bloggers right before you who sponsored this exchange. *Please remember to leave me a link to your blog, or an email address, so that I can get in touch with you.

"Be the the change you want to see in the world today."(by Mahatma Ghandi)

*UPDATE:
Karrita sent me one of her handmade ceramic hearts:

I sent a hand made fleece blanket to Mariaberg (Allt kan grönska)
and one to Karen (Greenwalks). One is in the making for Anna (Flowergardengirl-Decorate A Garden).  *I did not take photos of my work but Mariaberg posted some of the blanket I sent her.

  1. Ooh, I am so tempted, finding myself the first here (it seems, anyway)... will my sad lack of follow-through doom the chain? Maybe I'd better not. Well, OK, count me in if I qualify, I just thought of something I could make. :)

My main PIF deal is to let people go ahead of me in lines when they will take less time than I will. They always seem surprised that someone is willing to do this. We should all try to do something like that every day! Our society is so based on "what will I get out of the deal," starting in childhood, it's sad. OK, I am rambling. Have fun with your contest!

  2. Jan, I think it wonderful you all are doing this. Please do not include me in the handmade gift exchange though. I am just commenting because it is what I do:) Have a great day!

  3. Karen, you do qualify for this and I'll count you as the first. You have up to 6 months to send this gift. When I wrote the post I neglected to mention this. It's nice if it can be sent sooner, but 6 months is an acceptable cut-off, according to former posts on this subject.

Please just be sure to make the commitment to actually follow through. If you are going to participate, send me your email address in a comment to me on this post, and I'll then delete the comment & won't publish it here, ok??? I'll then email you back & get your address so I will know where to send my gift to you!

  4. Jan, I love the concept of paying it forward (loved the movie, as well!) I'd participate in a heartbeat, but living in Canada, there are sometimes problems with mail through customs, etc. So I guess I'd better not commit myself. I think it's a fun idea, though!

  5. Can I sign up even though my gifts are already on the table waiting for boxes so I can ship them. I think I can, Valerie did on mine!! Yippee, I get a gift too!!

  6. There were 5 other posts that did not get published when I hit the 'publish' button here. If anyone comes back to review this, and you had left a message earlier and it's not showing up, please re-post it. I have no idea what happened! I selected them all, then hit 'publish posts'.
    Blogger is frustrating at times!

  7. Oh Nancy, I'm sorry:( I'd love to have you be part of this. I don't mind sending it and paying extra postage...but it might be a problem for you sending it out? Is that it? Hmmm. Think about it and perhaps it could be worked out!

  11. Darla, to be fair, I am waiting for a reply from the person who signed up right before you, who I accidentally deleted when I was trying to publish the comment. I think it's Maureen. I'm waiting for her to come back & let me know. I'll decide by tomorrow who the 3rd person will be.

  13. Hi Mariaberg,
Thanks for both of your comments! I just published them, and only ONE showed up!
This is the 2nd time this has happened in 2 days. I'm not sure what's going on with my publishing button from Blogger. It's both sad & disappointing, because I loved your first comment about wanting to get a new lens for your camera, then go abroad & take pictures of new birds you haven't seen, and maybe even come & visit! That would be fun:)
Anna (Flowergardengirl) is having this same PIF on her blog. Go check her's and perhaps you won't be too late for that one, and let me know, ok?

  14. Darla, If I were you I'd sign up w/Flowergarden Girl. She probably has better crafty experience than me anyway:)

  15. ARGGHH!!! Something is seriously WRONG with Blogger!!
Maureen just left me a message! And I published it right before the one above!! And it isn't showing up!!!!
I am sorry to anyone who left messages here. I'm concerned about Blogger's problems too.
I hope this isn't going to have a negative effect on our blogs.

Blotanical isn't working either. I cannot get on the site. What's happening? "The sky is falling, the sky is falling..."

    mmmmhhhh!
